Over on the strobist.com group on Flickr a discussion has fired up about the new Nikon S550 and its features which include "smile mode".
A first for the COOLPIX camera line, the S550 will feature Smile mode, which automatically fires the shutter when the subject smiles as well as a Blink Warning, which displays a warning message when the subject has blinked.
Naturally enough, the discussion soon turned to "alternative modes" that the photographers of strobist would like to see, for example :-
- Kid Looking Adorable Mode - to save us from all of the pictured of kids looking kinda, you know, ugly sorta
- Pulitzer Mode - If the shot isn't worthy, the shutter wont click
- The "I think I might break the lens" mode - where the camera just slaps the crap out of anyone who says that lame statement
I won't ruin it by repeating their whole list here, (click on the link above and have a look yourself) but it got me thinking, what modes would concert photographers like on a camera?
How about
- small club mode - built in remote turns all red lights to bright white spotlights
- smoke jockey mode - increases contrast to cut through over zealous use of smoke machines
- look at me mode - emits ultrasonic signal that makes artist look straight down the lens at you
So what else would you like to see?
