One of my favourite music photographers - Carsten Windhorst - lifts the lid on the industry we all love in the August 2008 issue of Photo Pro Magazine (formerly known as Digital Photo Pro). For those of you that haven't come across Carsten's work, you have you just didn't realise it. His work is regularly on show in the national and international music press, (Q, Rolling Stone, Mojo to name just three).
He offers up some great advice for anyone interested in getting into music photography, such as start with small local gigs (we all did), get fast glass (f2.8 is a minimum for most small venues) along with a couple of really useful tips on preparing for gigs. I won't spoil it by revealing all here, get yourself out and pick up the mag. I really wish I'd had some of those tips when I was starting out though, it would have saved me a lot of learning the hard way :-).
