Opening the night for Philadelphia-based trio Enon were Glaswegian indie outfit Sexy Kids. Although they're a two girl/two boy quartet, any comparisons to the usual teen pop bands that have this format should be firmly flung out of the window. These Sexy Kids sound more like The Fall and are great fun.
Next up was probably one of the most tiring artists it has ever been my pleasure to see. We're already familiar with loop pedals, whereby a riff is played and sampled then looped while the artist plays another riff over the top. KT Tunstall famously uses it on Black Horse and the Cherry Tree. Elizabeth Sharp of Ill Ease takes this to a whole new level by playing all of the instruments (guitar/bass/drums/tambourine/etc...) herself for the entire set. The downside of this is the songs can get a little repetitive but that's maybe a little harsh.
Enon were as tight and punchy as ever. From Toko Yasuda's soaring vocals to John Schmersal's hard riffs this was a gig I wasn't going to forget in a hurry.
